Green Food Promoter Trophy

The 2022 Green Dining Guide (GDG) awards trophy was designed and crafted by Double Plus Good. The team visited a factory to collect discarded jade offcuts—materials traditionally deemed “imperfect” and therefore without value—and gave them a new life through design.

In the jade-making process, only flawless, translucent sections are considered worthy of being carved into bangles. The remaining stones, marked by textures, cracks, crystal cavities, or rough edges, are usually abandoned as waste. Yet many of these pieces bear circular cutouts—traces left by artisans during the “bangle extraction” process. These marks embody both the natural history of the stone and the human hand that shaped it. Inspired by this interplay, the design team transformed each unique fragment into a one-of-a-kind trophy, celebrating imperfection as beauty.

Each trophy presents a distinct appearance, paired with a warm walnut base. Together they symbolize the individuality of every awardee’s journey in sustainable dining, while collectively evoking the image of a forest—diverse yet interconnected, thriving together toward a greener future.

The project emphasizes the revaluation of discarded materials, inviting us to see beyond conventional standards of beauty and value. By merging sustainability with craftsmanship, the trophy is more than a symbol of recognition; it is a statement that design can bridge culture, material innovation, and social meaning.
